Emergency Community Housing

Partners: The Government of Nova Scotia, Red Cross
Location: Shelburne, NS
Project Year: 2023

This community housing project was delivered quickly and in partnership with the Government of Nova Scotia, Red Cross and multiple retail partners to support individuals and families displaced by wildfires across the province. This initiative reflects a coordinated response to urgent housing needs in Shelburne and surrounding communities.

The project included 25 mini homes, designed to provide safe, comfortable living spaces for displaced residents. These homes were distributed across eight communities, creating a network of housing solutions that supports up to 88 residents during a critical period of recovery.

Each unit was planned to meet immediate housing needs while offering a sense of stability and comfort for individuals and families navigating displacement. The project was delivered as part of a broader provincial effort to expand access to housing and respond to emergency situations with practical, scalable solutions.

The Shelburne development highlights how targeted housing initiatives can provide meaningful, short‑term support while contributing to the long‑term resilience of communities impacted by crisis.

“They’re there EVERY step of the way, including making the tough decisions.”
